Facts About March Madness From the Desk of My Chiropractor

.

Interesting Facts about March Madness Brackets:
#1 There are a few more than 9.2 quintillion combinations for a 64-team bracket. A quintillion is 1 million times 1 trillion — a 1 with 18 zeros behind it. If every possibility were filled out on its own sheet of paper, the weight of the paper would be 184 trillion tons — more than 500 million times the weight of the Empire State Building.
#2 There have only been seven No. 15 seeds to ever win a tournament game:
  • 1991: Richmond over Syracuse
  • 1993: Santa Clara over Arizona
  • 1997: Coppin State over South Carolina
  • 2001: Hampton over Iowa State
  • 2012: Norfolk State over Missouri
  • 2012: Lehigh over Duke
  • 2013: Florida Gulf Coast over Georgetown
#3 Only once have all No. 1 seeds made it to the Final Four. In 2008: Kansas, UCLA, Memphis and North Carolina made it.
#4 According to NCAA.com, only one team in the last six years has gone on to win the national championship after losing four games after Feb. 1. That team was Connecticut.

Health Benefits of Playing Basketball From Your Chiropractic Office.

With March Madness right around the corner we thought it would be a great time to find out just how beneficial basketball is to your health.  It can be played as a team competitively, as a recreation sport or even by yourself! All that running and jumping is a great cardiovascular workout, not to mention you use your whole body.  Basketball specifically strengthens your muscles and increases flexibility and burns fat. Just 1 hour of this wonderful sport can burn anywhere from 630 to 750 calories! Imagine that?
Some additional benefits to playing ball are that it builds endurance while also improving balance and coordination. We say it is an overall WINNER and it sure is fun! So get a team together, play inside or outside (weather permitting) or heck just play a good ole game of P-I-G.
Fun Facts about Basketball:
  • James Naismith published the rules for “Basket Ball” in 1892 for the game that he invented the year before.
  • In 1900, five players became the norm on the court.
  • Dribbling was introduced in 1901; it was not part of the game originally.
  • In 1985, the free throw line was placed on the court.
